About Touch Rugby
'Touch' or 'Touch Rugby' is a minimal contact sport. It is called Touch Rugby, as is no tackling involved.
It is similar to Flag, but a two handed touch (not shove) is used.
The game emphasizes running, agility, passing, catching and communication.
When you are tagged or touched you must stop, and another player gets to run with the ball.
Every player is used to move the ball up and down the field - looking to time your pass so that you can pass the ball before you are touched.
This makes it appealing to a wide range of ages and abilities, from juniors to masters and from slight to heavy builds.
Because the contact is just a touch, all ages and sizes can safely play together.
Scoring is Rugby "touchdowns" (touch ball to the ground in endzone). (One touchdown equals one point).
Teams are made up of 6 players on the field at any given time, with up to 8 substitute players on the sideline.
Teams are categorized into Mens, Womens and Mixed divisions (mixed = 3 male + 3 female players).
Players can substitute anytime during the game and as often as they like.
Attacking players must perform a "roll ball" (between the legs) if they have been touched by a defender.
Defenders must retire in a straight line 5 yards / meters from the "roll ball" mark.
After 6 touches, the possession changes to the other team for their turn at attack.
If the ball is passed before a touch is made, any touch does not count as part of the 6.
